Companies I want to analyze

BlockbusterWith the advent of the internet, goliath companies failed to adapt.

I asked ChatGPT to make me a list in a second that would normally have taken me hours. Of course, I would need to thoroughly vet this list and make sure it’s accurate, but I was not afraid to use AI Technology to get me started.

  1. Kodak: Eastman Kodak was a dominant force in the photography industry but failed to adapt to the digital photography revolution. Despite inventing the digital camera in the 1970s, the company didn’t capitalize on the technology, and its film-based business declined significantly.
  2. Blockbuster: Blockbuster Video was a leading video rental chain that didn’t embrace digital streaming and online rentals early enough, leading to its decline and eventual bankruptcy.
  3. Nokia: Nokia was once the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer. However, the company struggled to adapt to the smartphone era, particularly after the introduction of the iPhone and the rise of Android-based smartphones.
  4. BlackBerry: BlackBerry was a pioneer in the smartphone industry, known for its secure messaging services. However, it failed to keep up with the touchscreen smartphone trend and lost significant market share.
  5. Borders: Borders Group was a major bookstore chain that couldn’t effectively compete with online booksellers like Amazon. It filed for bankruptcy in 2011.
  6. Sears: Sears was a retail giant that couldn’t keep pace with the shift to online shopping and the rise of big-box retailers. It filed for bankruptcy in 2018.
  7. RadioShack: RadioShack struggled to adapt to changes in consumer electronics and failed to establish a strong online presence, leading to financial difficulties and bankruptcy.
  8. Toys “R” Us: The toy retailer faced challenges from online competitors and big-box stores, ultimately leading to its bankruptcy and store closures.
  9. MySpace: MySpace was a popular social networking platform in the early 2000s but couldn’t compete with the rapid growth and user engagement of Facebook.
  10. Compaq: Compaq was a leading computer manufacturer but faced difficulties in adapting to the changing PC market dynamics and was eventually acquired by HP.

These companies failed to adapt to the digital marketplace. I was just at Inbound 2023 last week. We are at another age. The Age of AI will have a much more dramatic impact on our world than the internet. How many businesses today will be gone tomorrow because they fail to adapt?
